My Top Ten beaches
Beaches and seascapes are high on everybody's list. After a first version of my Top Ten beaches a couple of years ago I took the opportunity to update this blogpost after my sabbatical. Be prepared for beach beauty from Australia, Fiji, Iceland, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA.

Mangroves grow in tropical coastal saline or brackish water and are a good indicator for an intact ecosystem. This picture was one of my first shots after arriving in Australia. We went straight up north from Cairns with our campervan for the pristine Cape Tribulation, took the Daintree river ferry and ended up here at the Cape Tribulation camping. It immediately feels like paradise here.

Climbing Ayers Rock, Australia, August 2001
You can easily see that these pictures at the start of my list are the oldest. They are film and diapositives from 2001 in Australia. We spent six weeks down under in Australia and New Zealand with a field trip from university and kicked it off with the red centre before joining the group. We climbed Ayers Rock (or "Uluru" as the Aborigines call it) on an early and very windy morning. Afterwards the sun came out and we circled the famous Australian inselberg. A stunning place to stand on top off and the first example for my best guided tours.
